Introductory
"For those who seek authority behind the written word, the truth of this text must be proven via its application. A formulated concept is of value only if it can be worked out as a living truth within the life and affairs of Humanity. Therefore do not look to the source of this teaching for its authenticity, but to the application of it within your own life and affairs." p. 4
Lesson 1
"2. Accept as Truth only that which you comprehend with both the heart and mind. There is within the basic structure of the inner, subjective man (the combined head and heart) a built-in intuitive response mechanism which has been placed there by the Soul. This is not the built-in emotional response mechanism, but rather a higher correspondence of that, which is responsible for the inner guidance known and experienced by many. It does not speak to you in either voice or formulated thought, but produces a response of instantaneous inner knowing which supersedes thought." p. 24
Lesson 9
"This is the great stumbling block for so many would-be disciples who cry out desperately for techniques with which to serve. They forget that their service must be rendered through their own instruments, and that while humanity is served through imperfect vehicles, nonetheless a certain degree of conformity must be attained before a disciple can be trusted with the secrets of White Magic.
What is meant by the term ''perfected instrument''? Certainly the reference is to the good, the true, and the beautiful, but as it is conducted from within to without. The meaning does not refer to a superficial covering of good health, nice appearance, abundant supply, or anything of the kind. A man may be bedridden and still render a specific and valuable service in the world sense.
It is the consciousness aspect that determines the condition of the instrument. What is the subjective influence being radiated by the man in the brain through his vehicles? This is the question of major importance, not, what is the condition of his physical health? Or, what is his financial status?" p. 114
Lesson 13
"The motivating purpose for entering into the activity must always be the aspiration to serve. Perhaps this is why meditation is so difficult for beginners. Those who are not motivated out of a somewhat selfless (Soul- impulsed) aspiration to be of service to humanity, seldom persevere past the point where meditation is no longer a discipline. In the beginning the activity bears so little apparent fruit that the persona, who is not well-oriented to the Soul, is unlikely to exercise this discipline over his form nature. He does not realize that interior adjustments have to be made before his meditations can produce outer results. If he is well-oriented, and if he truly aspires to take his place on the Path as a disciple (a world server), this is one of the areas in which he will demonstrate the Will of the Soul rather than the little will of the persona." p. 161
Lesson 19
"The modern philosopher will advocate a system of thought which is designed to bring heaven to earth, while the philosopher of the past advocated a system of thought designed to escape the earth and its forms for an indefinable heaven elsewhere.
In this way two facets of Truth are brought together to reveal a more perfect goal of attainment. The form, as well as the Soul, is seen as being endowed with a Divine Purpose, which can only be revealed as the duality of Soul and form is fused into a oneness. The form then, is but a vehicle within and through which the idea can be expressed." pp. 239 - 240
Lesson 20
"There are many who look toward the ''New Age'' with hope that its coming will bring the spiritual values so lacking in the human consciousness today. They await this ''New Age'' as they would await a miracle, failing to realize that it is upon us now and that the changes it brings are opportunities.
This is a point which demands clarification, for to await a miracle is to compress the lips, shake the head, and refuse to accept the opportunity proffered.
The New Age is. We have already entered into it, and its meaning is simply this: that new energies and forces are impacting upon the mass consciousness and its many forms of expression, which, as they impact, produce a condition of instability within the consciousness, the form, and hence the world of affairs. This condition of instability can be likened unto the first two years of a child's life, in which the mold is set for the directional flow of his energies throughout the life experience of this incarnation." p. 247
Lesson 25
"The probationer, then, must accept himself as he is. He must be able to look into his own mind and emotions, seeing here a personal ambition, and there a personal desire, and with a divine sense of humor place them upon the altar.
The man who fools himself at this point and tells himself that he is without personal motivation fails to pass the test, and must continue another period of preparation for initiation." p. 317
Lesson 29
"Never attempt to build a form from within a separated focus of identification. Establish first in deep meditation your at-one-ment with the One Life. Dare to set aside your own separated identity, your own purpose and goal, and to ascertain the way in which you can best serve the Plan via your alignment with it, as an integral part of the One Life." pp. 364 - 365
Lesson 35
"Ceremonial magic is a concept which can, if not correctly approached, result in a very great glamour. Glamour, remember, is the interpretation given a truth by the astral consciousness. The glamour of ceremony makes of it an outer act without inner meaning. Such is the case with so many of the so-called ceremonies in use today.
True ceremony is an inner state of being, which is channeled into every outer act." pp. 431
Lesson 40
"And now we come to the end of this series of instruction. Its value to a needy humanity will be determined by your response to, and application of, those basic concepts of truth contained within it. If your life is enriched in spiritual growth by one of its concepts, it is serving its Purpose. If someone else's life is enriched by you, because of that growth, you are serving the same Purpose. Let its Truth pour forth through you into all walks of life, into all departments of human living, into the consciousness of humanity." pp. 496
